Don came out to ride which was nice. Mike and I rode from the park to Green River Country Club, down to Huntington Beach and back to the park. Mike dropped a bit quicker than I had thought he would. ...something like 3 miles into the ride he let me go but stayed close enough he could see me ahead. We crossed paths at Green River and I didn't see him again until we crossed paths again 3-4 miles from HB (I was on my way up and he on his way down). Don met me at the Keno's restaurant bridge were I led the entire way down to HB, dropping him a bit back a few times. Don caught up though and it was nice having someone of similar strengths to ride along with side by side at times hammering away at the pedals in the aero bars. The final ride time and distance was 57.5 miles in 2:56.40.
Don noticed after looking at my ride data that I'm riding more consistently from a power standpoint but I'm still dropping off slightly towards the last 4 miles of the 57.5 mile ride. This means I need to turn down the power a bit through the ride in order to have it to explode with late in the ride. Apparently I'm cycling in no mans land when it comes to my longer Saturday rides. I'm not able to sustain a high enough constant power output to really make good improvement with. He suggested doing intervals. Apparently intervals really push your anaerobic threshold and it will eventually allow me to ride harder longer on my Saturday rides.
So I tried intervals Tuesday evening of this week and...yeah...screw that! That's one of those things that if I do, I will do them from home...on the trainer...with a video or something. Otherwise, I'll ride more mountains in hopes of achieving a similar result.
Bike is dirty again and last Saturday's ride was completely in the rain so I was covered as much as my bike was in dirt and well...more dirt. Eventually I'll get a pic posted.
