Post hike review

The trail behind us. Mike tried getting the slope but I don't think the photo shows it well. You can certainly feel how small we are in this world though if you look at the photo full size.

Up, up, and up! Nice tan line on the leg eh? Ahh, the life of being a cyclist. =) I'm not so sure what the scrunchy face was all about though. Maybe glare? Who knows.

I'm headed back down into the soft Charmin-esque clouds. Can't we just ride these home?

The cloud blanket goes so far you can't see LA, Catalina, or even any part of the ocean.

The hike was enjoyable for the most part. My pack was giving me some fitting issues that I had to work on along the way. Having a pack as heavy as it is makes it imperative that all the support straps and bolsters are in the right spots.

It was overcast when Mike and I left the house and about an hour or so into the hike we got above the clouds and boy was it sunny! The clouds seemed to be closing in on the mountains quickly which made for some nice cool gusts of wind on a hot workout ascent.

We hiked up Bear Canyon, through Bear Flats and about 2 miles of being on top of Mount San Antonio (Mt. Baldy). We met up with a fellow hiker and he described the remaining route to us and since Mike had to be back at a certain time and the fact we didn't actually pack or plan for topping Mt. Baldy we turned around and came back.

It seems that the tracking feature only showed up once on the hike which is a bit weird. I called SPOT and left a message to see if I did something incorrectly when I turned it on. When I got home it all seemed to work fine when I did a new test run so I have no idea. This is certainly something I want to get ironed out before I head up to Mt. Whitney.

On a side note, I was able to reduce my pack weight by compressing and consolidating everything from my multi-day pack to my smaller single-day pack. Lighter means faster and farther. I was able to reduce my pack weight down to 32 lbs. without food instead of the 43 or whatever I got this morning. =)
