1st 80 miles since last Tucson...

Don met us out on the river trail today which was nice. He rode about 40 miles and had to return home for family duties. Mike, Alex, and I continued riding and went north on PCH from Huntington Beach almost to Long Beach. I don't know if we actually left Seal Beach or not. Mike had some guy run into the back of him and crash his bike as a result. I guess the dude totally wasn't paying attention to the fact everyone but him was slowing and had been slowing for at least 6 seconds for a traffic light that went yellow.

The ride ended with a total distance of 81.5 miles which Alex and I covered in a little over 4 hours. Mike was 15 minutes behind. My power meter showed an average speed over the ride was between 20.1 and 20.2 mph. I pulled the group along for about 75 miles of the ride before I had to wave Alex up at the end. Riding 75 miles taking all the wind and getting no aero benefit is a heck of a lot of work but somehow I just seem to enjoy the pain so I don't complain. =)

I came home and immediately stuck a huge plate of pasta from last night in the microwave and made a huge protein smoothie before heading up to Rachel's.

After today, I'm sure out in Tucson I will have a faster time than last year because I will be able to sit in a paceline where I'll be contributing only when I feel like it.

nice work on the ride, Scott. Yes, isn't it great when people aren't paying attention behind you - just love that! Hope your friend's bike is ok!
