Don came by the house yesterday to take care of some stuff with Mike and said he was going to go up GMR this morning. He asked if I wanted to go and I of course said yes. I proclaimed later how much riding GMR after yesterday's hard ride was going to hurt.
Yeah, it hurt for the first mile or so and then a guy came up behind us and passed us. I was going to hang back with Don and take it easy but then Don said to go ahead. I told him I already pulled off the guy to sit back with him and he said "You can catch him." So I went and pulled him back in over the next 1.5 miles and passed him. I carried a pretty hard pace up considering I just rode yesterday but it was about the same pace I normally would have gone. It turns out I was only about 30 seconds off my best. Don made a point to say "Nice RECOVERY ride!" and we chuckled a bit. I told him I had no idea I'd be able to ride like that after yesterday. It sure hurt like hell at first.
The 25 minute descent back down the mountain sure made me wish I had a helmet cam for my blog readers to watch video of. It was such a nice morning. Both sides of the road had gorgeous views down into the valley on the left and the lake at the bottom on the right. I really should look into picking one up. I know I mentioned it a few weeks ago when Mike got run off the road.
