Weekend riding

Mike and I went out to SART Saturday afternoon. I wanted to sleep in with my girlfriend for a change and since she was leaving early afternoon it was decided to head out around 2 pm. I forgot how much of a pain in the butt it is to ride down to the beach in the afternoon. The headwind is horrible! I spent so much energy holding a decent pace that my pace suffered noticeably on the way back. Still did 40 in under 2 hours but not as well as I should have done. Alex was supposed to join us as. He told me Friday that he'd call if he couldn't make the revised time but seemed glad it was being done a bit later. No show...no call. It's a pattern that's been developing and is getting a bit annoying...especially when one doesn't even call when you're waiting for him. Oh well, I ride regardless.

This morning we went out to Bonelli Park to do some laps in advance of the triathlon on Oct. 5. After the ride most everyone involved in the relay teams met for breakfast a Norm's Breakfast and Coffee at Bracket Airfield. We discussed a lot about raceday. I was asked a good amount of questions since I'm the only one that's been involved in a tri before. It was nice being able to be in that position and answer them.

While I haven't run or swam a triathlon ever, I was able to let the swimmers who were going to rent wetsuits know things like the helpfulness of bodyglide and having a towel with all your transition gear layed out (for those doing it all themselves). It looks like it's going to be a lot of fun with the larger group of people going to participate.

On a side note, I haven't been putting in nearly as many base miles during the week as I should be. I think my weekly M-F average has been something around 30 which is down from 70ish. I felt it both Saturday and today. I'm not riding as strong as I have been and my recovery was not where it should have been today. My ride today was spend split pretty equally between heart rate zone 3 and 4 and I spent 1% in zone 5. Going "race pace", my heart rate should have been split about 10% in zone 5, 86% in zone 4, and 5% in zone 3. Time to pump those weekday miles back up starting this week.
