I received this email from one of the Orange County Wheelmen members...
Pretty disturbing we have professional athletes in football, baseball, and basketball that make many millions of dollars annually and except for football, none put their bodies through what professional cyclists do. Yet the payscales are vastly different between those three and cycling. Golf, the lazy "sport" if you can even call it one pays out much more than cycling and golfers don't even have to walk from one tee to the next anymore let alone carry their bags.
"There were two BIG winners in California yesterday. The 1st winner, Phil Mickelson, over 3 grueling days built a big lead and then on day 4 did just about everything to almost blow the biggest lead of his golfing career. Fighting the Golf demons on the 72nd hole, Phil buried a par to win the Northern Trust Open at the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California.
Phil took home $1,134,000 for his victory.
The other winner toured around sunny California for 9 days with 136 of his best riding buddies on their bicycles. They started their bike tour on February 14 in Sacramento, California and 9 days and 780.5 miles later they finished in Escondido, California. Over 2 million friends & family members came out to watch these guys ride their bikes. For fun they kept time and raced each day to a finish line. After 31 hours, 28 minutes, and 21 seconds in the saddle Levi Leipheimer won this bicycling tour by 36 seconds.
Levi took home $15,000 for his winnings yesterday."

I TOTALLY hear ya...I go on a rant about that ALL the time. It just seems SO inequitable!
