The weather last weekend was fabulous! Well, it was a bit warm at 85 degrees but it was a nice change from the 50 - 60 degree damp weather we've been having.
I was supposed to go riding with Alex at 10 on Saturday morning but Michelle and I elected to spend a lazy morning and wakeup whenever. As it turns out Alex called and had to cancel anyway. I went out riding around 2 in the afternoon after I came back down from Michelle's house and rode through the Claremont McKenna College campus and up to the light on Foothill Blvd. I stood there waiting for the light to go green. When it did I proceeded through the intersection and looked down when I missed clipping in the first time. Simultaneously I got clipped in and heard "BIKER BIKER BIKER" being shouted from in front of me. When I looked up I only had room and time to grab brake and come to as near a stop as possible before riding right into the side of a green Ford Escort making a left turn across my right-of-way. I couldn't unclip the foot I needed in time (but somehow got the other out...go figure) and went down. Nothing much notable for injuries really. I had some abrasions on my right leg on the side of the knee and my hip later hurt which went away in about 2 days.
The car was being driven by a high school aged girl and populated by her equally young looking female friend (the yeller) and what looked to be one of their younger brothers in the back. I got up off the ground, picked up my bike and walked over to the passenger door of the car which is stopped in the middle of the intersection and asked the driver what her problem was. She stated she didn't see me (I can't tell you how old and tiring this excuse is...REALLY!) The boy in the back was the first to ask if I was alright followed by the driver's friend. After a minute the driver finally said she was sorry and asked if I was ok. I told her just to "get the (&*^ out of here" and walked away. I backhanded the back of her car and kept walking. I was no worse for wear so there was no need for the police to be called but my irritation was (aside from being cut off and knocked off the bike) was that the driver was the LAST person to ask if I was ok and apologize. Um, shouldn't that have been the first thing out of her mouth?
I'm fine and the bike is fine so that's last weekend's story.
Now I'm looking forward to the Palm Springs Duathlon race coming up this Sunday! Michelle will be going out to cheer me on and support me. We'll be going out on Saturday to pick up my race packet and spending the night out there. Otherwise, I'd have to be up at 3 something Sunday morning and out of the house at 4 sharp to arrive out there early enough to pick up my race packet. Yeah, not a desirable option.
