Joshua Tree National Park Jan 1 - 2

I went out camping in Joshua Tree overnight on the 1st. Arrived out there and found it surprisingly warm at 4000 ft. After camp was set up and ate lunch it was time to set out to explore some of the adjacent wilderness.

Dinner was scrumptious. I grilled salmon steaks, boiled up some vegetable and noodle soup and made rice. The salmon steaks charred on the bottom inside the aluminum foil so when it combined the natural juices with the seasoning I used....MMMMM!

There was quite a bit of snow still on the ground out there from the last storm system that passed through SoCal a couple weeks ago. At campground elevation there was hardly any to speak of but it was sprinkled at elevations starting around 100 feet higher (see pic above).

The original plan this morning was to hike Warren Peak (requires some scrambling efforts) which is about 6 miles one way from the campground but since it was chilly and windy it was decided to leave it for another visit. The wind was forecast to get worse throughout the day.
